On September 7, 2025, the Morris County 9/11 Memorial in Morris Plains was somberly draped in silence as local residents, first responders, and elected leaders honored the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The bagpipers’ mournful strains led the procession, with a folded American flag presented by Randolph Township Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Dunn and carried by Rudy Sanfilippo—a brave FDNY veteran who survived both tower collapses. The ceremony wove together soul-stirring moments: the Pledge of Allegiance, renditions by the Morris Choral Society, a poignant reading by a grieving sister introduced by Commissioner Christine Myers, a candle-lighting vigil, the solemn tolling of bells naming the 64 county residents lost that day, and a final 21-gun salute and “Taps.” Commissioner Myers’s warm introduction to the poem personalized the grief—and the honor—for our community. It wasn’t just a ceremony. It was our vow: we will never forget.
